Speeds: what’s normal (and how to check)

Your Pathway plan is the maximum speed available to your service location under normal conditions.
Real-world results vary with:

  • Wi‑Fi vs a wired Ethernet test
  • How many devices are active
  • Older devices or Wi‑Fi adapters
  • Router placement (cabinets and far rooms slow Wi‑Fi)
  • Temporary congestion on your home network

Best test: connect a computer by Ethernet to your Pathway router or ONT/router, reboot nothing unless needed, pause big downloads, then run a speed test.

  1. Command IQ app — open Pathway Command IQ to run bandwidth tests and see device activity (covered in your welcome packet).
  2. Wired test — Ethernet to the Pathway gateway for the fairest comparison to your plan.
  3. During install — Pathway technicians already verify speeds before they leave; if something changed later, Customer Care can re-check with you.

Often the fix is placement, not the fiber:

  • Move the router to a more open, central spot (not in a closet or cabinet)
  • Use Pathway mesh/extenders for larger homes
  • Pause or prioritize devices in Command IQ
  • Test again on Ethernet — if wired matches your plan, focus on Wi‑Fi coverage

If wired speeds stay far below your plan at different times of day, contact Pathway with the test result, time, and whether you tested wired or Wi‑Fi.
